Just a few short weeks ago I was writing about the “unique and exciting challenge” living in the country presents in regards to shopping for and writing about clothing. This very challenge is what inevitably had me wearing a nightie to social gathering this past weekend. I say inevitably because when I stumbled upon this maroon, rib knit nightdress, I never intended to wear it for sleeping.
It was late August when I set out on a mission for just the right shift dress. I’m a fan of the loose-fitting look and feel such a dress provides and figured one with full-length sleeves would be perfect for the late summer wedding I would be flying back to Minnesota to attend.
Without much luck finding the dress I had in mind, I found myself perusing the sleepwear section at Target [keep an open mind, always]. I ended up bringing home two pieces I thought could be transitioned from night- to daywear with just a little creativity. Over the weekend I chose a chambray shirt + accessories to achieve this transformation.
A shirt around the waist is one of my favorite ways to break up a look while adding definition to an otherwise shapeless dress. Not to mention an extra layer around your waist is not only functional—it’s practical [and not even your favorite belt can say that].
I completed the look with two of my latest favorites: these colorful ILY Couture statement earrings and black Jeffrey Campbell ‘Jelly Love’ flats.
And now for the big news….
No sense in suspense, let’s get straight to it. After spending the summer living in rural Wash., we are moving west. Way west. And the news is a little bittersweet. While I don’t feel that I am quite finished enjoying the simple luxuries of country living, I am looking forward to the new adventure. And while the thought of rain [lots of rain] has me feeling apprehensive, I keep telling myself a winter on the sound [Puget Sound] will be more bearable than the polar vortex those of us in Minnesota endured last year.
So here’s to being positive. I look forward to exploring a new landscape and experiencing all the greatness the west side has to offer.
