Wild blackberries: cocktail with mint|lime|coconut

The last time I bought blackberries from the supermarket I was disappointed to say the least. I should have known by their extremely long, narrow appearance that something wasn’t quite right. They were squishy and what little flavor they had was overly sweet. [sigh]

Fortunately it’s berry picking season here in the Pacific Northwest. I love being able to walk the beach or go on a bike ride and come across an abundance of my favorite fruit: wild blackberries.

My mouth waters as I sit here imagining biting into a plump, bluish/purple berry bursting with a flavor that is perfectly sweet and sour.

I spent the afternoon across the street picking wild berries with the intent to build a simple yet delicious cocktail.photo 1

With Jake’s help and a little experimentation, here’s what we came up with:

  • 3 oz vodka
  • 4 sprigs fresh mint leaf
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1 can sparkling coconut water
  • ice

directions:

  1. in a cocktail shaker, muddle mint and ice
  2. add blackberries, muddle
  3. squeeze in lime
  4. add vodka and shake
  5. strain equally into two ice-filled glasses
  6. top with coconut water

Garnish as desired and enjoy!
